Mixed Media Artwork Made With Repurposed Materials

I love visiting local thrift stores and finding a random photo frame, some fabric, and another treasure or two that catches my eye.

Making mixed media artwork using repurposed materials wasn’t something I planned on doing but looking back at when I started, it makes sense. Saving forgotten or discarded items has always been a thing for me. There are newly purchased supplies in my home studio but those ingredients don’t inspire me as much as what I adopt at the thrift store or pick up through a local online marketplace.

Cathartic Artwork Defined

Cathartic artwork defined is any creative process that brings emotional release, clarity, or healing to the artist or the viewer.

For me, creating mixed media artwork is cathartic because I take a mental break from thinking about any concerns or pressures as I assemble each piece. As each piece nears completion, I often have an aha moment realizing the inspiration ties in with something I’ve started processing or healing from.

The calm, healing process of art is self empowering.
